Rare three generation old:

These pieces have been in the same family for three generations. This collection was started back in the eighteenth century by the grandfather of the only existing grandson and was to be passed on down to the next generation, as this is a Ukrainian tradition. The owner is now getting up in age and feels it is time to actively find a new owner for the collection that has been so precious and beautiful throughout the three generations. Also, he would like to be able to distribute a percentage of the money to charities of his choice.

There is over 300 pieces in this collection made all over the world in places such as France, Germany, England, Bavaria, Belgium, Prussia, Austria even Canada and the USA. They are made mostly out of porcelain, Bone China, with shaving brushes made from bone, wood, porcelain and all with natural animal hair. There is also many with heavy gold or silver trim and embossing. Included in the collection are several silver plated shaving mirrors and razors.

Collected internationally:

This collection was started back in the frontier days when many families travelled from country to country putting down roots. Therefore many of the pieces were picked up throughout the grandfather’s and father’s travels, and some pieces were personally scouted out and purchased by the existing owner in the late fifties and sixties. Precious pieces have come from all over the world. For years this collection was added to until such time that the product became non-existent or rare, and most people do not know what a mustache cup or shaving mug is.

First time on the market:

The collection has been a family heirloom for the past three generation; traditionally it would have passed on, but unforeseen circumstances have prevented the tradition. Due to sentimental value the owner is requesting that the collection not be divided up but sold as a complete collection, with hopes of it becoming a family heirloom for other up and coming generations, with a little history from our ancestors.

Undeclared Value:

During the past few years due to insurance policies, the owner has taken the collection to Antique Appraisers, Collectors and dealers for an appraisal. The most recent being in November 1995 at Persian Arts and Crafts Ltd. The fact remained that the appraiser had never seen such an item and no history or records could give him insight as to what it was worth. Sotheby’s was also contacted, Kenzie Selman was the associate that examined the collection and was in total amazement at the quality and that he had never seen such a rare, size collection of this kind. A Ballpark Figure was given that if each individual piece was auctioned off it would possible net around two million US dollars. An estimated figure could not be given for the full collection, as they had no guidelines to follow but suggested that it was definitely worth well over the one million US Dollars mark with it being so esoteric. All avenues have been exhausted to get a determined value put to the collection, therefore the owner has decided that the selling price for the collection in all fairness to be around 1.2 million in US dollars, and is open to offers.
